I’m not gonna lie, we’ve removed (or demolished) a miniature staircase or two. However, in the case of the Long Farmhouse, we had so much space to work with that we actually installed one for once! I know, I know…don’t faint. It was probably a very old staircase, and it was constructed from somewhat shoddy, layered wood. So of course we painted it white, but it just needed a little something extra. Ya know? That’s when we settled on adding a cement tile design to the risers. It could not have been easier.

What You Will Need

Ruler
Printed Design (we used
this one)
Scissors/Paper Cutter
Craft Bond

1.

Measure the width of the staircase (spot check it a bit too, we actually discovered that ours was wider in some spots than others).

Cut one one long section to width. You’ll be trimming each riser from this piece.

Now measure the height of your first riser. (We started at the top so we could carry the design all the way down the stairs.)

2.

Apply a generous amount of craft glue to back of each strip.

3.

Apply each strip with firm pressure, pushing out any bubbles that may be trapped and paying close attention that the edges are firmly glued in place.

4.

Work your way down the stairs until your full design is in place. Again, some of the risers were different widths, so we just made sure that the design was aligned to the outside of the staircase overall.

That’s It!

Super quick, super easy. It only took one sheet of printed tile, despite my having measured wrong a time or two and having inverted the design once.
