Holiday Mini Modern Farmhouse (Full Details)

What is it about the holidays anyway? I guess the winter months are just darker in the northern hemisphere. Days get shorter, the fog rolls in, the end of your nose is always cold.

So when the twinkle lights go up, all of our spirits rise. We start to remember that warmth is just around the corner.

We wanted to put all of that light and hope and magic and every gingerbread-scented feeling into this Holiday Mini Modern Farmhouse.

House Details

We wanted to keep this one as light and bright as possible, so left everything as neutral as possible, while adding a little texture. We custom-cut some decorative beams for the upper floor, and stained the double doors below to match.

WALL DECOR: perhaps a bit brutally, we sawed the head off of a moose figure and painted it white, then wrapped it in a faux greenery wreath and a small button pearl ornament

For the holiday season, it just seemed right to add a coffee bar. (I mean, you could have hot cocoa or tea, I suppose.)

Fireplace

Something about the holiday season begs for a good fireplace, so we went for it. We designed this brick one with a natural wood mantel held up by two white corbels. My favorite part was the little brick firebox that mounted behind the fireplace.

Christmas Tree

Gotta say, we did not think it would take as long as it did to make this little tree. We started with a bottle brush tree and used a hot glue gun to add in individual “branches” of dried moss. The idea was to wrap the tree in a tiny string of lights and have a simple tree.

So many hours later, the tree still looked a bit sparse, so we glued in some more moss. Still kinda sad. At this point, we decided that it simply wasn’t going to look great without ornaments. So, a selection of white beads was added.

We finally topped it with a star that we 3D printed for the occasion and called it. What really finished it off though, was adding the pile of wrapped gifts, and the Mini Modern Farmhouse in 1:144 scale.
